Shenzhen Polytechnic CPD Center Design Proposal

I. Objective

To enhance the individual learner’s comprehensive competence, Shenzhen Polytechnic CPD Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Center") plans to create a new type of environment where individual learners can learn and exchange ideas effectively. As a modern and networked education platform, the Center is committed to offering practical, real-time and open platform for teachers and students of vocational education institutes at home and abroad and for those who pursue continuous learning. The Center has developed different learning tasks tailored for individuals from different majors and at different levels. Learners can learn independently according to their own conditions and interests. In addition, the Center provides on-line and off-line courses to provide necessary knowledge and skill training for learners, thus connecting continuing education and vocational education seamlessly, which help learners enhance their practical and professional competence and accomplish goals of life-long education.

II. Blueprint

Introducing network and multimedia technologies, the Center incorporates multi-purpose teaching platform, HD projector, 3D virtual simulation and training software, conference tables and chairs, and simulation devices, to enhance the learning environment. The Center also supports e-learning and linguistic experiment and training functions. The simulation environment provided by the Center allows learners to experience relevant business operations and to improve their professional competence through information-based means. The Center can accommodate at most 48 learners. Please see the following plan view and rendering of the Center:

III. Hardware and Software Construction

The Center will be equipped with desktops, mobile PCs, electronic whiteboards, servers, printers and multimedia equipment (sound equipment and microphone) as well as video conference software platform.

The Center will adopt software platforms to better serve teachers:

  1. Comprehensive training system: Integrating theory and practice and following the idea of autonomous learning, this system includes three modules, respectively key knowledge, training center and interactive teaching, allowing a graduate of international business to experience career practice and promotion. The software covers subjects like international trade, marketing, human resource, international business negotiation, business communication, e-commerce, international finance, accounting, business etiquette and cross-cultural communication, and simulates various business scenarios and provides practical training tasks, through which students can improve basic language skills, such as listening, speaking, reading and writing, and to increase their understanding and competence in international business environment. The system will provide interactive cases, combine on-line and off-line learning and indoor and outdoor learning to reduce teachers' burden, create alternative teaching methods and enhance students' participation and initiative.
  2. Negotiation training system: It is a training course that involves nine knowledge points in the international business negotiation, respectively background investigation, plan development, preparation, starting, negotiation, deadlock breaking, contract risks, etiquette, public relations, and at the same time explain international business theories and skills in a simulated negotiation process, creating a relaxed and interesting learning atmosphere for students. The comprehensive course has two exam modules, respectively written examination and capability assessment.  Written examination: Students can attend the computer-based test on international business negotiation within the limited period, and get automatically scored by the system. Capability assessment: Students can operate and simulate business negotiation cases within the limited period, and get automatically scored by the system.
  3. Correspondence training system: Following closely the correspondence course and against the context of international trade process, this system assigns students tasks adapted from real cases from international trade practices, and provides practical questions. The single course is a computer-based test developed for students who have finished the theory courses. The students can complete the practical training tasks with the theoretical knowledge they have learned. The comprehensive case, through integrating logical relations among cases, highlights the dynamic trade process among partners involved. The comprehensive course can be used as mid-term, final and periodic tests, examinations and interactive training, allowing students to understand the international trade process as a whole.
  4. Communication training system: Integrating theory and practice and combining case study and task-based learning, the system incorporates the core aspects in international business communication theories, respectively organization and communication, public relation communication and interpersonal communication, into the real corporate cases and multiple training tasks. Using various multimedia and digital technologies, the system manages to simulate a real international business communication environment for students. The system comprises three modules, respectively key knowledge, training center and examination and assessment. It integrates teaching, learning, practicing and examination to help students understand theories, and design practical scenarios to help students master useful skills, thus paving the way for their careers.

IV. Feasibility Study

Shenzhen Polytechnic has established a scientific and standard system for the use and management of instruments and equipment. In addition, the lab manager has years' experience in equipment management and will be responsible for keeping the equipment properly and improving the utilization of the equipment.  The system is installed on the server and LAN network, campus network or Internet, and does not need other terminals. Moreover, it is easy to use and maintain. An operation video and a manual are provide. The developer will send technicians for support when necessary. Three-year after-sales service is available free-of-charge, which includes telephone support, remote assistance and regular tracking. The Center is designed to realize autonomous learning. Students will be motivated to learn and to discover rather than merely learning knowledge. The learning process will be more open and interactive, compared with traditional isolated boring learning. The Center will promote information-based teaching, refresh teaching content, and optimize cultivation of talents. Scientific labs and curriculum systems are developed based on real business needs. Students can try projects one by one and receive systematic training during the process, thus combining learning of theories with practice.
