Training of Academic and administrative staff from three Georgian and five Chinese institutions.

Learner Centred Teaching (LCT): Training of academics (Learner Centred Teaching and Learning)  and administrative staff (Continuous Professional Development, CPD Units) is one of the most important part of the STAR project outcomes.

Training was divided into 2 parts:

Online training (preparation work prior to face – to face training); during online training the participants become familiar with the theoretical contents of the training and Face to Face training.

Online training for Academics allowed participants to:

  • promote pedagogical innovation;
  • get familiar with the key terms which refer to active learning teaching;
  • develop critical thinking about teaching practices;

Training of Administratives

“…the main contribution of the training for my institution is to guess where we are in the CPD process, are there possibilities or enough desire to Implement CPD and what are the main challenges during this process……” (Georgia, Administrative staff training)

“…..during the training we shared information, went through the checklist, shared experience and I got expression that even we have left a lot to do implement CPD, this is achievable in the nearest future. I gained the confidence that we are working in the right direction and results are somewhere near…” (Georgia, Administrative staff training)

“…..training was well organised and the working process was not tiring – we were all involved…” (Georgia)

“….I liked the fact that all participants were fully involved in the discussion and trainers(Silvia Nolan, Ivana Márová) were interactive…” (Georgia)

“…..I like the form of the training, especially the online training before the face-to-face training, which made the face-to-face training more effective;

I also like the training which separate the academic staff from the administrative staff, and then put us together, which made me much clearer about the implementation of CPD.

In one word,  everything is ok…..”(China)

“……The ways the trainers delivered the training session are exactly the sample of implementing LCT smooth contact and effective help from coordinators and trainers to share ideas with other Chinese partners….” (China)

Training of Academics

“….There was discussed story of my lesson and participant gave me some crucial suggestions and advices which improve my lectures. I liked working in the group, where we were trying to solve some problems, which were given by organizers…..”(Georgia)

“…..It was important and fruitful…” (Georgia)

“…..Teachers' sharing of their teaching stories and plans and they can give me some inspiration.Group discussion of the improvements for the teaching methods and we can learn a lot from each other. Lectures given by the professors because they are very informative and well-prepared and I really learn a lot. Thank you!..... „(China)

“…….the way delivering training. It really reflects the nature of learner-centered teaching. By learning by doing, trainees not only consulate what they have know, but get to know the effective ways to improve their own teaching. The most important is the trainees can learn some training techniques which is needed for their training for other teachers…..” (China)
