CPD Unit Development Process Report

Goal

To Establish CPD Unit, create a teacher training team, identify the target group of trainees, conduct the training of learner-centered teaching methods for teachers, and enhance the teaching quality of our university.

Progress made

1. Equipment purchase was initiated in January, 2018, and desk computers, the printer, the projector needed for training were installed in Office of English, which is a place for teacher training, as well as a part of CPD Unit.
2. Meeting with vice director of Academic Affairs to discuss the cooperation on teacher training. After several meetings, relationship has been established between STAR project team and Teacher Development Center of Lingnan Normal University. The TDC’s place can be used for STAR teacher training, and the STAR team and TDC will provide training for LNU teachers together.
3. Trainer team has been formed. Teacher training is the main task of CPD Unit. A trainer team involving professors from College of Education, School of Foreign Studies and College of Liberal Arts was formed in September, 2018. Team members have met three times to discuss the concept of learner-centred teaching and the plan of future training.
4. The target trainees have been identified. Because the mission of CPD unit is not only to help teachers update their knowledge and skill of learner-centred teaching, but also support their professional development, the target trainees are new-coming teachers each new semester and teachers who are interested in LCT.
5. A training plan has been made, which includes one trail training this semester, two training next semester. The training content is based on the Manual, and the method is borrowed from the Zhanjiang Training Session.
6. A trail training on LCT was given to 8 teachers in School of Foreign Studies in November. Trainers are the LNU team members, and the  trained teachers responded well to the content of the training.

Next step

1. Strengthening the cooperation with Teaching Profession Development Center of LNU on the management of CPD unit, and gain more support from it on teacher training.
2. Giving teacher training as scheduled.
3. Providing assistance for the Office of Academic Affair in Young Teachers Teaching Competition.
