Masaryk university, located in Brno, is the second-largest public university in the Czech Republic. At present it comprises nine faculties with more than 200 departments, institutes and clinics. It is recognized as one of the most important teaching and research institutions in the Czech Republic and as a highly-regarded Central European university.

The Faculty’s primary goal is the education of the teachers in primary and lower secondary schools, and secondary schools in certain fields. Besides teaching programmes, the faculty runs studies in special and social education. The Faculty of Education offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programmes. Continuing professional development and lifelong learning programmes are also offered containing advanced, follow-up, special and conversion programmes and short-term courses for teachers.

The department of Special Education at the Faculty of Education was set up in 1994 as a unique MU department based both on students’ and public’s claims and has the key role in the implementation of inclusive education in the Czech Republic; it prepares special needs teachers, but also participates in the training of teachers for primary and secondary schools.

Dana Zámečníková

Dana Zámečníková, senior Lecturer of Special Needs Education at Masaryk University, Faculty of Education in Brno, Czech Republic. After her graduation in Ph.D. studies in 2004 she started her carrier as a researcher and teacher at Masaryk University.

Her research interest: Special Needs Education, children/ pupils with physical disabilities - approaches, support and education, chronically ill children in school environment, working possibilities for people with special needs.

Ivana Márová

Ivana Marova, Ph.D. is an assistant professor at the Department of Special Education, Faculty of Education, Masaryk University in Brno. Her academic activities are focused on the education of students with special educational needs (especially those with physical disabilities and students with learning disabilities) at all educational levels. She sucessfully defended her dissertation thesis entitled Professional orientation in students with special educational needs in the autumn semester 2016.

Areas of interest: Individuals with special educational needs,  Professional development, Education od student with special educational needs.

Eva Trnová

Eva Trnová is senior lecturer at Department of Education at Faculty of Education, Masaryk University in Brno. She is program tutor for professional development courses aimed to education of gifted students and innovative educational methods focused on activation of students.  At international level, she was involved in the European projects dealing with the development of innovative educational methods supporting learner – centred teaching.  She has teaching experience at basic schools and grammar schools, where she worked as a teacher and deputy headmaster.
