CPD Development at Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani Teaching University
SSOTU is involved in the International Project “Sustainable Learner-centered Teaching, Advanced resources for China and Georgia”
Project focuses on: professional development of teachers in the area of innovative pedagogical approaches.
Key objective: to address the shortcoming in higher education across Georgia and China by systematically engaging HEIs in new practices with a learner-centred focus.
CPD center
Within the STAR project the Center for Continuing Professional Development was established at SABAUNI on March, 2018
The office of the center is equipped with modern technic which is co-funded by the project.
Mission and Values of the CPD
Mission is recognized as the center of excellence at SABAUNI for providing professional development opportunities and resources that meet the evolving needs of employees throughout the university.
Main goal of the CPD is to ensure the delivery and dissemination of high quality, non-degree, competency-based educational programs and Student-oriented teaching that meet the existing and emerging educational and professional needs.

What is done
- CPD unit presentation for administrative staff and stakeholders
- 19/12/2018 meeting after face-to-face training in October at UG, sharing the opinions and experiences, discuss the future plans
- 9/01/2019 Planning the trainings for the academic staff of SSOTU
What is planned
- Conduct a surveys at the beginning of Semester (Needs Assessment Questionnaires) and define needs of academic and administrative staff of SSOTU
- Organization of Trainings and workshops on Learner Centered teaching for academic staff of SSOTU (In February of 2019)
- Offering trainings on Learner Centered teaching to our partner Georgian universities (until the end of the spring semester of 2018-2019 academic year)
- To update the information about CPD activities on web-page/FB
- External dissemination of experience and information
- To elaborate Strategy and tools for sustainability
