CPD Unit Development in SSPU

What kind of CPD Unit SSPU wants to establish?

Since the year 2004, Chinese Ministry of Education launched a nationwide reform of College English teaching methodology, transforming the teacher-centered teaching to Student-centered teaching and luckily SSPU was one of the first universities in China to use student-centered teaching methodology. After more than ten-year reforming and training, almost all the English teacher are good at using the Student-centered teaching methodology. Since 2009, SSPU has experimenting the CDIO teaching mode, that is, C-Conceive, D-Design, I- Implement, O-Operation, which is similar to the PDCA- Plan, Do, Check and Act. That is a student-centered teaching mode. Till now, half of the Programs are using this CDIO mode. Therefore, for this STAR project, we are focusing on those who are not using student-centered teaching methodology programs, especially the programs in college of Engineering and School of Economics and Management. The CPD unit we want to establish is one who can combine the existing Labs and research, teaching, learning and training into one platform.

II. What is the CPD Unit in SSPU like?

1. The CPD Unit of the STAR project was established in 2017, combined with the Lab of Intelligent Manufacturing System Based on Industry 4.0, and in May, 2018, the CPD Unit is officially listed.

3. It is located in the first floor of Building 14. Till now, there are many companies and universities have joined in this platform.
4. Our team

What we have done with the CPD Unit

1. The learner-centred teaching was disseminated at institutional scope
2. We hosted an international conference with our lab partners to promote the CPD of STAR Project Lab on the 8th May in 2018. There are around 80 teachers and experts to participate in this conference. We launched the opening ceremony of the STAR project.
   The international conference was publicized by five major domestic media.
3. We integrated DT(design thinking ) , a learner-centred teaching method, into our experimental teaching, and also use this method at the training for companies.
4. We participated China International Industry Fair on Sep. 2018, and exhibited the teaching equipment for learner-centred teaching , attracted the attention of  many companies ,universities and training institutions . After the exhibition, they  visited our lab once again , and intended to buy this equipment for teaching or training.so we disseminated learner-centred teaching methods through Industry Fair.
5. SAP is one of partners of our joint lab, and we train the teachers of SAP  University Union once a year. We hold a training conference collaborating with SAP at SSPU on Sep. 21 , the trainees came from universities , companies, and government.
6. There are six teachers from SSPU to attend the training for trainer in Lingnan normal university

7. Based on this platform, these two years, Ten doctoral and master students were trained jointly with Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Manchester University, Institute of Technology, Tara, Ireland, University of Ruse, Bulgaria, National University of Defense Technology.

What we plan to do

1. In 2019, SSPU will implement the CDIO teaching mode in the whole university, and our team will give the suggestion about the training plan.
2. Design the CPD training programme according to the Manual;
3. Implement the training programme in SSPU;
4. Implement the training programme at national and international scope.
